The Department of Education—National Capital Region (DepEd NCR) has issued Regional Memorandum No. 1183, series of 2024, mandating make-up classes across the NCR from November 25 to 27, 2024. The directive, released on November 11, is aimed at addressing the instructional days missed due to recent suspensions caused by Typhoon Kristine.

The make-up sessions will be held face-to-face, following regular class hours, to ensure students can catch up on the required learning competencies. Additionally, DepEd NCR has coordinated with schools to adjust their schedules, setting the In-Service Training (INSET) for teachers on November 28 and 29, following the make-up classes. This schedule aims to allow schools and teachers to maximize learning recovery efforts without disrupting planned professional development.

However, an unnumbered Division Memorandum issued on November 13 has outlined additional make-up days for public elementary and secondary schools in Manila to address more missed days due to Typhoon Nika and the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

According to the updated schedule, November 25, 26, and 27 are designated as the initial make-up days. December 2 and 3 are additional make-up days. December 7 is set for the second-quarter periodic tests.

In line with these adjustments, DepEd NCR also encourages feedback collection on the make-up classes. Curriculum Implementation Division Education Program Supervisors (EPS), Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs), and school heads have been instructed to gather student feedback on the effectiveness of these sessions. This feedback, to be submitted on December 6, will be used to aid in enhancing instructional strategies and addressing learning gaps.

The Department has requested immediate dissemination and compliance with the memorandum to ensure students are prepared for upcoming assessments and can keep up with the curriculum despite recent disruptions.
