Entertain and Educate.
Nowadays, literature is slowly losing its way in today’s modern world, as literary works are being forgotten and are being underappreciated, as our society is more focused on “gadgets” such as phones, which only give as much as entertainment, which leads to why literary pieces are being forgotten as to various people, they consider reading “boring,” and they actually lack time to focus on reading these pieces and appreciating how much emotion and how much depth it contains. As to the question, why is literature important, and how would we manage to promote and revive literature alongside keeping up with technology and constant change?
Technology has helped us build up a structure in our economy and our society, giving us information ready on the go and, of course entertainment. In reviving the fondness for literature, a course of action could be entertainment itself. We could also ask for help from the generation who were basically born when technology emerged in our society, which is “Generation Z.” in our generation, entertainment is everything, and it is everywhere as any gadget contains these social media applications that allow anyone to post anything or anyone with just a few clicks.
In correlation to my last point, we could build an application that would entertain and make people learn about the history of literature and different parts of it while getting entertained like game videos, which could earn you “in-game currencies” where you can use those to avail different designs to your “avatar”, wherein you could also communicate and socialize with different people at the same time.
Other than entertaining applications, we could also post videos on the internet explaining brief information about a certain literary piece alongside images that could help the readers or the listeners visualize the story and leave them wanting more, making the story stop at the most exciting part. Thus, they want to continue the literary piece reading and visualizing it.
Another way is by posting another educational video in an entertaining way explaining different categories and parts of literature and how imaginative literature can make you just by reading various literary pieces. In this video, they could also put their opinions or insights about the story, explaining each and every emotion and how the story flows; in this way, many viewers would get captivated and interested, wanting to learn more about literature.
Lastly, simply encourage your viewers about the advantages and the fondness of literature, how it could help you in your everyday life, and how it can improve your writing skills, reading skills, understanding of different stories, and most importantly, your visualization and your imagination.
Just imagine how powerful literature really is, how it teaches you different things that could help yourself and others, and how you would perceive the world itself, understanding different concepts, emotions, stories, and structures that not only could entertain you but help you academically. Now tell me, is literature really that important in today’s world?
