Significance of Literature
by MARJORIE FERRER | 3rd Place in Essay Writing Contest (Language and Literary Month 2024)
Literature is just one word, yet many of us don’t really understand its meaning. We could just say that it is something academically related. Yes, that is indeed correct. However, if we dive deeply into it, we will understand its significance and the need to revive our love for it.
In this Era, most of us don’t really think that much when we hear the word literature, its products, the importance of understanding how to extract knowledge from it, and how to use its relevance in our lives, as we often relayed on the internet. I couldn’t blame the generation today as I am also doing the same thing. Who wouldn’t be? It’s tempting to use the internet as all of the resources that we need are already available on the internet. It makes our lives easier, and we could also use AI to make our output flawless, such as ChatGPT.
However, if we are going to relay on the internet all the time, we will not be able to produce a quality and original output that could be use by future generations, on the other words, our identity will vanish, our intelligence will be wasted and creativity will be in vain.
Moreover, it will be a shame that the tool that had been created to help us produce an output that has great quality will be the very main reason why we weren’t able to do so as all of the output will be just the same in context. What a disgrace to the next generation.
With this being said, we could simply think that the importance of being able to hone our intelligence and creativity with the help of the internet to produce a great literary work with our own identity is very important as it would help our future generations. Hence, knowledge will not be limited to what is just listed and indicated on the internet as new experiences and learnings will be added and passed on to the next generation because whether we like it or not, we all know that most of us just search, copy and paste everything that we saw on the internet without really trying to understand it nor add our own touches on it. In other words, originality is no longer present in the context; what is more important for the character of the writer?
Therefore, reviving our love for literature and knowing its importance is a true definition of power. We will be able to help the next generation by sharing our own love and knowledge of literature. We will be able to show them the love and care that we have for them. It is like a cheer from the past that could help them be a better version of us.
So, I would like to encourage everyone to be mindful of whatever you are doing right now and always think that we must always consider the effect of our actions to others because it is not just about us, it is also about the future of the next generation.
